The Digital Transformation Opportunity For MENA Supply Chains

The full impact of the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic on MENA supply chains has not yet been accurately calculated but it’s clear the pandemic has sounded a wake-up call for the region’s businesses and governments.

Since March 2020, a swathe of anecdotal evidence has detailed the region’s eagerness to speed up already ongoing procurement transformation journeys. It came as no surprise when a global survey earlier this year by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) found that respondents in Middle Eastern companies were showing greater urgency about transforming their supply chains than colleagues around the world.

The survey found that 96% of respondents from the Middle East were in the process of reconfiguring supply chains when asked in October 2020 – the world’s highest figure, compared to a global average of 83%. MENA respondents also expected to reconfigure supply chains within 7.4 months, compared to the global average of 8.5 months.
